"LOVE AT FIRST FLIGHT" My New Custom YETI SB165 Test Ride / First Crash Modern Free Ride Bike 3/6/2
I test rode the Yeti SB165 in January and I was blown away at how much I liked it. I was so tempted to order that bike after the first ride but I wanted to test out some other bikes just to be sure. These are all the bikes that I was considering and demo'd: Yeti SB140 Yeti SB150 Yeti SB165 Ibis HD5 Evil Insurgent Transition Patrol Specialized Enduro After riding all the bikes, nothing compared to the SB165. I was looking for a fun, slack bike that I can still pedal. I do a lot of shuttle runs and park days but I also do a lot of SoCal steep climbs. The trails I hit are mainly chunky, steep with lots of features. I feel like this bike was made for me. After my first ride I can honestly say I am in love. I did have issues with the rear tracking, I am not sure if it was the conditions, the tire pressure or the rear shock. I did go with the Yeti/Fox recommended settings. This bike was custom built by Universal Cycles in Studio City Ca. I actually started ordering parts in January. The Industry Nine Wheels took 5 weeks to build and the DVO Onyx Fork and Jade X shock was sold out. So I was not able to get the build completed until first week of March. Kevin the owner of Universal Cycles knew how bad I wanted the bike he actually drove it down to my restaurant and hand deliver it to me the day before so I can ride it at Webb Canyon. Kevin is the coolest guy and I want to interview him but he's camera shy. He does so much for the MTB Community but he's really humble and doesn't brag about it. He understood that high end mountain bikes are expensive so people should test ride bikes so they can decide what they like. With his own money he bought a fleet of brand new high end bikes which are used as demo bikes. He also sponsors demo days where people get to demo bikes for free. The next Demo Day will be March 22 at 8am at El Prieto , I will be there to do a group ride so I hope you guys can come out.
