Gem TD World Record - 34:03 [Easy/Race]
We've been playing Gem TD for a couple of months now and keep improving constantly. We've tried many strategies and building orders and came to the conclusion that building like in this video is the best for easy. Having improved the Easy/Race time from 35:20 to 34:03 (huge improvement!) on Dec, 31st, led us to upload this video. Some questions you might want to ask us (feel free to add some in the comments): How do you know it's a world record? We don't know if it really is a world record since we couldn't find any information about this. But we invite you to contact us in case you got a better time. But because most players begin to kill the level 25 ReRunner when we already killed the Final Damage Test and because I can't think of one single game in the countless games we've played recently where one player was even close to us (except for the ones when the ReRunner/FDT attacked or our towers really sucked) I think we can be quite sure, it's the World Record. Why Easy/Race? That sucks! We started playing Gem TD in either Easy or Extreme Mode. We died many times in extreme since we didn't know the tower combinations by heart and we just built a more or less random maze. After playing it again and again we always killed the RDT at level 50 in extreme mode around 1h05. But 1h05 is a damn long time, although we think it is probably possible to get under 1 hour but it takes too much time. So we switched to easy. To make a long story short: What you see is we think is the best possible maze for easy (not really a maze though) and it IS a challenge to try to be as fast as you can. Just playing extreme with a maze the FDT runs through like 6 times and you kill him without having to pay much attention to your towers is boring as well. Why are you so fast? Basically it's, of course, because we build right at the creep's spawn. You could build even closer to it but it seems that the ReRunner/FDT attacks more often then. Some other reasons: - We use the builder's hotkeys for building ('g' and 'e'), if you don't and build towers by pressing SHIFT he will wait until a tower is completely built and then continue with the other ones. Sounds funny but in fact saves quite a lot of time. - We know every tower/slate combination by heart and we know exactly what towers we currently have in our maze and which we still need. - We upgrade towers first, before starting to extra chance. - Our maze is very small, so a Viper Slate for example can provide its aura for many towers at the same time. - We can move our slates wherever we want in our maze because it's so small, even if we get a slate while closing the maze on the right where later no tower is supposed to be. You cheated a Stone of Bryvx! Yep, but we don't consider it to be cheating. We want to be as fast as possible with every possibility the game gives us. But the SoB is not always a good decision. You've got to make a decision if he's gonna save you more time than it actually takes you to "build" him. Same with "cheated" Great Opal or Great Diamond. By the way, these are the only three towers we think it's worth to cheat (we're not quite sure with the Great Opal, though). Any other little tricks? - The auras of Mystic Black Opal and Mystic Opal stack! However, no other aura or effect does (like Gold/Egyptian Gold). - E.g., if you got a Perfect Opal and a Flawed Opal click on one of your slates and check its buffs. You will notice that the Opal aura alternates all the time between level 2 and 5. Not very good for your tower's speed! Kill the Flawed Opal. You will still be able to make your Uranium but he wouldn't disturb your Perfect Opal anymore. However, he wont keep his kills. - Mystic Black Opal, Perfect Opal, Black Opal. So if you have a Perfect Opal and you can combine him to a Mystic Black Opal and you don't have a second Perfect Opal only combine if you can upgrade it to Mystic Black Opal directly. Otherwise keep it uncombined until you get a second Perfect Opal. - Try to get a one hit at level one ;-) and try not to build another one of the three standard towers (Silver Star, Star Ruby and Malachite). If there's no other choice choose one of the Star Ruby's components. Have you heard of the Rainbow Gem? It's a lie. Got a Paraiba One Hit and nothing happened (v3.9). Feel free to send us your replays and/or record time videos! After verifying it we will upload it and you'll get the new world record.
