A solid defense by Mileika J. | Tal vs Mileika | Riga 1952
Good Evening everyone, I am starting a new series on one of my personal favorites 'Mikhail Tal'. Misha was one of the strongest attacking players ever in the world and of course, he was the world champion in 1960-1961. They used to call him 'The Magician from Riga". It was said during those times that whenever this Latvian chess GM played a game in the tournament, there is going to be a storm on the Chessboard. Here is a small Wikipedia snippet I would like to share with you that is very interesting:- "Misha was so ill-equipped for a living... When he traveled to a tournament, he couldn't even pack his own suitcase... He didn't even know how to turn on the gas for cooking. If I had a headache, and there happened to be no one home but him, he would fall into a panic: "How do I make a hot-water bottle?" And when I got behind the wheel of a car, he would look at me as though I were a visitor from another planet. Of course, if he had made some effort, he could have learned all of this. But it was all boring to him. He just didn't need to. A lot of people have said that if Tal had looked after his health if he hadn't led such a dissolute life... and so forth. But with people like Tal, the idea of "if only" is just absurd. He wouldn't have been Tal then." This game was played by Tal and Mileika J. in Riga 1952 which was drawn. Feel free to post any suggestions to improve the channel further. If you want to play with me, send me a chess.com challenge at this email id: [email protected] Have a Great Evening!
