Study says 2 apples a day can help lower bad cholesterol
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The old advice about an apple a day might be true! A study on apples in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found just two apples a day is enough to bring down cholesterol. Researchers in this study had 40 people with mildly elevated cholesterol consume two apples or an apple juice drink. After comparing this so both would be equal to two apples a day for eight weeks, the group that had the apples dropped their LDL cholesterol (the bad one) by seven points. The group that had the apple juice drink did not. High LDL cholesterol is associated with heart disease and stroke risk, so it's important to lower that. The reason might have been the fiber in the apples, but that's not known for sure. But it certainly couldn't hurt to incorporate them in your diet!
