Excerpt from Act I Scene I. The Marquis Costa de Beauregard (Ruslan Skvortsov) makes advances to the pretty peasant girl, Jeanne (Margarita Shrainer). She tries to protect herself, then her brother Jerome (Andrey Merkuriev) comes to her aid. However, Jerome is beaten up by the Marquis’s men and thrown into prison. Adeline (Nina Kaptsova), the daughter of the Marquis, has observed the scene and frees Jerome. Their love for each other begins. Choreography by Alexei Ratmansky, with use of the original choreography by Vasily Vainonen . Music by Boris Asafyev.
