Tom Szaky TerraCycle Interview | Blockchain Technology in Recycling & Eliminating the Idea of Waste

Please enjoy this Tom Szaky TerraCycle interview about blockchain technology in recycling and eliminating the idea of waste. Tom Szaky CEO of TerraCycle is one of the most innovative entrepreneurs of our era, his work in reuse and recycling has been featured all over the work. In this episode we talk about ‘end of life’ product stewardship, creative reuse, corporate sustainability and how blockchain could be used to save the planet. His privately owned recycling company with its headquarters in New Jersey is called TerraCycle. In order to turn non-recyclable pre- and post-consumer waste into raw materials for new goods, it primarily operates a volunteer-based recycling platform for corporate contributors or municipalities. The business sells trademark licenses for its brand to producers of about 200 goods created with its raw material. Additionally, TerraCycle runs Loop, a reusable packaging online retailer of consumer goods. Blockchain technology is being used to tackle the issue of waste in the world. It is a new way of thinking about our economy, and it is being applied to a variety of industries. The blockchain can be used for many different things, but one way that it can be used is for recycling plastic. There are two ways that this can happen: using blockchain technology to track the movement of plastic or using blockchain technology to allow people to trade in plastic tokens. The blockchain can also be used to track materials in the supply chain and make sure they are not being wasted or used in an unsustainable manner. If you’ve found this video, you’re probably looking for more information on: • Tom Szaky for TerraCycle interview • blockchain technology in recycling and eliminating the idea of waste • The Convergence Podcast discusses blockchain plastic recycling technology • circular economy, corporate sustainability, and creative reuse educational talks • how to eliminate waste, going green, and green business • plastic recycling, reducing waste, sustainability, and sustainable business • TerraCycle how does it work • Upcycling and zero waste recycling blockchain Blockchain is a new technology that has the potential to disrupt many industries. It can be used to make recycling easier and more efficient, as well as to build a circular economy. The blockchain is an immutable distributed ledger, which means that it can store records in a secure and permanent way. This allows for the tracking of materials and products through their entire life cycle. The blockchain is also decentralized, meaning that it does not need any central authority or third party to verify transactions. Overconsumption and a throwaway culture have led to a global waste crisis. While even complex trash is technically recyclable, most materials are not profitable to recycle. As a result, waste piles up in landfills and pollutes our planet while virgin materials are extracted from the earth to create new products. At TerraCycle, their mission is 'eliminating the idea of waste'. Businesses, government entities, and people like you work with us globally to keep trash out of landfills or from incineration. Through collaboration and innovation, they've developed the world's first solutions in everything from recycling to reuse. In 2019, TerraCycle unveiled Loop, a closed-loop reusable packaging platform for consumer-packaged goods companies. The system ships food, household cleaning, personal care products in a reusable padded container. The products are delivered in reusable containers, which are returned to the Loop tote, picked up by Loop, cleaned, refilled and reused. The Convergence Podcast is an Audio and Video podcast series hosted by Derrick Mains. We'll cover and explain all things in the emerging Web 3.0 ecosphere. From Blockchains, NFTs, DAOs, and more, join us every week as Derrick learns from some of the industries leaders in the space.
