D C United close to acquiring Argentine a ttacker Yamil Asad
D.C. United close to acquiring Argentine a.ttacker Yamil Asad. CLEARWATER BEACH, FLA. — D.C. United has been on the hunt for a Latin American attacker for some time now, and it appears the club has found one who starred in MLS last year: Argentina’s Yamil Asad, a 23-year-old midfielder who posted seven goals and 13 assists for Atlanta United. The deal for Asad’s rights is not done, multiple sources said Monday. With few players to spare, D.C. is likely to relinquish allocation money. Asad was on loan to Atlanta from Argentine club Velez Sarsfield last year, and despite his sterling performance, the sides were unable to extend the deal. Atlanta retained his MLS rights but moved on without him, acquiring Ezequiel Barco, 18, from Argentina’s Independiente for an MLS-record $15 million last week. In order to acquire Asad, D.C. would have to negotiate with both Sarsfield and Atlanta. If a deal is struck, Asad would join a roster that includes several new signings in midfield since last summer: Paul Arriola, Zoltan Stieber, Russell Canouse, Ulises Segura and Junior Moreno. Returning midfielders include Luciano Acosta and Ian Harkes.
