9.5mm sound film - T.9053 "CHARING CROSS ROAD" GB 1935 - Clips - Belle Baker,June Clyde,John Mills

Another musical clips item compiled from a British 9.5mm Pathescope optical sound film ('home movie') release of the British 1935 feature film "Charing Cross Road" from British Lion. Here we see June Clyde (popular American star who often appeared in British films and stage shows when her film director husband Thornton Freeland was working in England) together with John Mills (later to be Sir John Mills OBE) as a pair of 'hoofers' hoping to make it in the West End.(London, England). Plus Belle Baker, famous American vaudeville and night club singe - sadly on her way to obscurity.. After the titles we see June Clyde and John Mills perform "I'm Going To Call You Sweetheart" and "The Roadway of Romance". Next we see Belle Baker (at about 6 minutes) sing "The Roadway Of Romance". Then the finale of the show with June Clyde pulling John Mills out of a problem. 1930s British Lion 35mm film material was mostly lost during the 1939-1945 World War - making the 9.5mm film gauge often the only way to see this material. Sadly the 9.5mm 'home movie' film prints are usually heavily cut. "They Survive On Ninefive" More information at:- http://www.pathefilm.uk/95flmcat/95flmcatt9053.htm
