GERRY RAFFERTY Take The Money and Run

It is 40 years since Gerry Rafferty's sophomore LP 'Night Owl' entered the Australian charts and the title track began its ascension on the Top 100. Sadly it only made #64 but for me, it cemented what was an already hugely respectful and admiring devotion to this singer songwriter that would endure even after his untimely passing in 2011. Gerry Rafferty is my all time favourite male artist - hands down! 'Night Owl' is a perfect album - there is nothing i would change and nothing i would trade out. It is filled with beautifully composed, performed and produced tracks - i can't even label them any particular genre as that would reduce it to a commodity, which his music never was. I have already posted the title track so to commemorate 40 years since it's release, i have created a clip of the majesterial 'Take The Money & Run' - which certainly has hallmark's of Gerry's breakout solo smash 'Baker Street'. The sublime way he wove personal and universal lyrics within one complex lyric and built the intricate sound is what made him such a revered artist - and such a unique one too. I can put on any track of 'Night Owl' and some 40 years on, still be transported to another place and time, whilst also feeling the immediacy of the music - I simply can't say that of any other artist. Eternal treasures.
