Akshara Foundation - Keynote address by Prof. Shantha Sinha Part-1
Prof. Shantha Sinha, Chairperson, National Commission for Protection of Chiild Rights delivered the keynote address at the colloquium titled "Equitable Quality Education for all children", organized as a part of Akshara's 10th Anniversary celebrations. Prof. Sinha mentioned that access to school is not synonymous with quality of education. She pointed out that the problem today is learning outcomes, the quality of what children are learning, not numbers and names in attendance registers. The education system is challenged by demand. It is also a system that needs cleansing. Discrimination, gender prejudice, the unequal status of rich and poor, need to give way for the democratization of schools. Change is needed to enable universal access to quality education.
