I flew to Riyadh on a whim. After a few days in the mega city, I was ready to see the vast deserts of Arabia that you picture. Fortunately, just about an hour roadtrip from the city, you can stand on the edge of the earth overlooking the vast nothingness of the desert. It's an epic sight, with dramatic cliffs diving into the depths of an ancient ocean that has been turned into dust. There are none of the usual safety precautions, instead you are faced with the rugged beauty and danger of nature. It was a great taste of the deserts that awaited me in Saudi Arabia, and here is how it went.
