Happy Birthday Tribute - Brian Jones
On this day in 1942, a man who was to be instrumental in bringing the beauty and soul of American Blues to Europe and the rest of the world was born in Cheltenham, UK. Because of him, a band named The Rolling Stones was created and though having gone through many changes, is still bringing the joy of music to old and new fans alike. This is not just a tribute to Brian but a "thank you" to him as well for being born with, and sharing, a heart that was full of soul. Whatever one may think of his turbulent life and untimely death, let us never forget his immense contribution and inspiration to other artists and fans alike. In trying to choose the audio accompaniment to the song-and going through many, many Stones numbers as well as the exceptional work of a number of musicians both known and obscure-I have settled on a bouncy, foot-tapping blues number called "Matt's Blues". My final decision rested on the fact that Brian lived, breathed and loved the Blues up until his last breath. In my opinion it was the one (and only) true love of his life. I also think that a birthday is a time to celebrate life and the good times it so often brings. A special thanks to R.T. (you know who you are!) for inspiring me to spread my wings and fly....
