Vladimir Yelin Mermaid in Love Chapter 2. The Mermaid He froze in fear at what he saw— The shore was empty, just the sea. “If she pulls me into the breakers’ draw, She’ll tickle the life right out of me!” The ocean’s realm is fierce and wild— You’d best stay sharp in surf and foam. When Sirens sing, don’t play the child— Or you may never make it home. From the tide, her form began to rise— Grace in motion, heaven-spun. He held his breath, with wide, stunned eyes— His soul lit up like the morning sun. She carried the scent of the open sea, Wild and deep, like storms and stars. It wrapped around him, tenderly, And broke down all his inner bars. His thoughts ran wild, then slowed to one: “Should I step close, just speak her name? What if she’s fate—what if she’s the one— And silence is the only shame?” She drifted in with siren grace, Each ripple drawing him along. He stepped knee-deep, lost in her face… Her gaze, her breath—a silent song.
