1966 1000km Monza - World Sportscar Championship R3 - GTR2 - 1966 Series #17
Monza Italy is known as the Cathedral of speed, but for the second year running that speed would be restricted for the 1000km of Monza. Starting in 1965 and doubling down for 1966, Chicanes were installed at the entry of each of Monza's 30-degree banked corners, slowing the cars and creating an extra challenge to the previously high-speed circuit. By the end of the decade the sportscars abandoned the banking all-together. Hollman and Moody have entered a sole GT40 mkII for Richie and Richie to challenge the Ferrari team and try to steal points on the Italian's home turf. Despite the win at the 24 hours of Daytona the added endurance races will allow the team to continue preparing for the main event in just a few short weeks.
