KHACHATURIAN AND THE DANCING BOW/MASQUERADE WALTZ
A workup of the Masquerade Waltz by Aram Khachaturian on violin, with work on how to get the "dancing bow" for the Russian waltz and work on getting the notes in the upper octaves. Video Chapters: 0:00 Intro 1:25 The dancing bow 2:05 The "piqué" bowing 3:02 The high notes/waltz workup 4:43 Subscribe to my newsletter! This is the third waltz for my "summer of Russian waltzes." After five months of learning to play the violin again, playing a work from a Soviet composer was the perfect choice. Khachaturian, like all Soviet composers, was required to write beautiful music for the glorification of his society. However, it could not be "elitist" liek the music of Tchaikovsky or Rachmaninoff, which was often only in reach to top players. The music had to be accessible to the people -- both the players and the listeners. As a result, this piece was perfect for an intermediate player like me. I'm a violinist who's learning to play again after walking away from music years ago. Follow along on my channel as I re-trace the steps it takes to play.
