What is EUI-64 EUI | Stand for Extended Unique Identifier [Step by Step]
EUI Stand for Extended Unique Identifier (Modified) EUI-64 is a method of converting a MAC address (48-bits) into a 64-bit interface identifier in order to make easy the process of self-assign address. This interface identifier can then become the 'host portion' of a /64 IPv6 address in the LAN network. An IPv6 address as you know 128-bits so, slash 64 mean 64-bits network portion, and 64-bits are the host portion of the address In this video, you will learn how to convert MAC address into EUI-64 ID When you actually configure it on the router this will be done automatically, but you should know how to do it? Copy the MAC address and it into a text editor 1: Divide MAC in the Half 2: Insert FFFE hexadecimal in the Middle, so in between MAC Address 3: If the 7th bit is zero make it One, and if the 7th bit is one make it zero The 7th bit of the interface MAC address was Zero and I did convert it to one and converted the obtained address into the hexadecimal back, so the obtained EUI-64 Address will look like “7118:8BFF:FE46:8677” The final result after all calculations and conversion will be as below.
