Cultural Marxism: Ideology, Politics, and Intellectual Sources
Maguswest and Alexander Zubatov, a New York writer, philosopher, and lawyer, critically explore Cultural Marxism (https://www.tabletmag.com/scroll/276018/just-because-anti-semites-talk-about-cultural-marxism-doesnt-mean-it-isnt-real). Libertarian, conservative and earlier left writers and scholars have used this generic expression to describe a shift in the left political culture and discourse (in the 1960s-1980s) from class and political economy to culture and identity issues. Current left scholars object to the use of this term and prefer to operate with such expressions as Critical Theory, Critical Race Theory, and the like. We seek to examine Cultural Marxism as a natural phenomenon that emerged and developed among the left in the second half of the last century. Among the issues we have discussed are the genetic links between old class-based Marxism and identity-based Cultural Marxism, the role of the so-called Frankfurt School, the claims that Cultural Marxism concept is anti-Semitic, the role of Georg Lukács, Antonio Gramsci, Herbert Marcuse, Michele Foucault, the concept of cultural hegemony and the the role of intellectuals, Critical Legal Theory, Critical Race Theory, thoughts on the current state of the mainstream identity ideology, further fragmentation of established "victim" groups into smaller groups, the role of Cultural Marxism in fomenting political correctness and current Multikulti ideology.
