Minecraft | Can't Sprint or Walk (FOV Bouce "Glitch") (Read the Pinned Comment for Fixes)
Final Fix (?) (5/10/20) "DumKopf Gaming" help shed light on this issue; This "glitch" would actually be deemed a hardware/user issue. Basically, somewhere along the way, your keyboard's repeat rate (the amount of times something is typed when you hold down a key) was increased to an unusually high rate. Decreasing it would be the fix. If your OS (maybe even software you already have on your PC) can slow down the repeat rate, this will likely fix the problem. Although I can't confirm if this will work on Windows, you can try it to see if it works for you: 1. Go to Control Panel 2. Click the "Keyboard" Applet (Large Icons; in the middle of all the apps) 3. Turn down the repeat rate from there. Units go from 0 to 31, so find what works for you. Other OS's may offer the same solution, just different "Settings." I wonder if there's a way that Mojang could code movement so that no matter how fast your repeat rate is, you'll never encounter this glitch. I'm not a programmer though, so I don't know. Good Luck! _________________________________________________________________________________________ So we've found another fix! (3/23/20) While I've been trying to recreate this glitch, Nwiizt (initially "No u") in the comments section figured out that turning off the USB to his keyboard fixed the issue immediately. I believe this would be the equivalent to plugging your keyboard in and out, but I'm unsure because I've never tried turning off the USB to my keyboard. In other words, the glitch originates from your keyboard or the USB to your keyboard. You have two options to fix this glitch 1. Turn off the USB, and turn it on again. It should be resolved then. If this works, give big ups to Nwiizt in the comments section! 2. Replace the keyboard. You don't necessarily need to buy a new one, but that's what I did. And that's pretty much it. Try it out, and if it fixes the glitch, let me know in the comments below on which method you used. _________________________________________________________________________________________ So it may or may not be the keyboard... (3/22/20) I pulled out my old keyboard to double check it was the sole problem, but when used it the same world I had problems in, everything worked as intended. I tested my all my USBs, and nothing arose. So the keyboard may not have been a definitive answer. It worked for me, but there is a chance that it won't resolve anyone else's issues. I'll try and recreate the problem just so I can investigate and come back with a definitive answer. _________________________________________________________________________________________ I figured it out! (2/28/20) Turns out, it was my keyboard. I purchased a new keyboard and tried it out today to see if the bug was still there. The game didn't update, so when I saw I wasn't bugging anymore, I knew it had to be the keyboard. If this is happening to you, try getting another keyboard and see if the bug goes away. I switched from a mecha(?) membrane keyboard to a mechanical keyboard (Cherry MX Blue). For some reason, while this bug was present in Minecraft, it wasn't present in any other games I have on my computer. If it still occurs, I have no other solutions, and hope you are able to work it out! There is a chance that the W key is the only thing broken though, so try out different keys for movement as a possible alternative. I'm going to leave my previous analysis in the description so you guys can see my thought process on it the day before. _________________________________________________________________________________________ I didn't know about this bug until today (2/27/20) So I loaded in Minecraft today, expecting everything to be normal. But when I begin to move around, my character begins to stutter between walking and sprinting. At first, I thought my keyboard was shorting out or something, so I decide to rebind 'W' to something else, and that didn't work. I tried changing the sprint button to something different and that didn't work either (I primarily double tap W to sprint anyways). I also loaded up different games just to make sure that I wasn't my keyboard, and every other game performed the way it was supposed to, so this is just a Minecraft thing. I actually loaded into a new world and tested to see if only my world was bugged somehow, but the exact same thing kept happening (as I show in the video). I tried looking around to see if anyone else was having issues, and I only found one other person experiencing the same bug as me. He was playing on Bedrock, and I play on Java, so it must have been some kind of recent update. To explain exactly what is happening, my character is stuttering between walking and sprinting simultaneously, almost as if the game can't decide which I should do. Hopefully this is addressed soon, because the only way around this glitch is to continuously jump while walking/sprinting, or jump every second before the glitch occurs. #FOVBounce #sprintstuttering
