Basically the idea is to pick your difficulty and build towers that spawn random tower from a choice of 8 , you combine towers that are the same to create the next tier tower so you can survive vs 40 different waves and every 10 waves is a boss. Every 5 waves you get a perk to help you in battle and each round you receive lumber in which you can use to plant crops and thus sell those crops for money but be careful because the market prices change each round!!
