Romeo and Juliet or a Sonnet for the Eternal Love

„Romeo and Juliet or a Sonnet for the Eternal Love” is one of the performances of our International Theatre Program “Shakespeare - Contemporary and Cruel”. The program includes the productions “Richard, Richard Who”, “Time for Lear”, Hamlet or Three Boys and One Girl”, “I, Lady Macbeth”, and “Hamlet versus Don Quixote”. All of them are based on the original music of Konstantin Kutshev, which was composed especially for this project, and the unique choreography of Petya Yosifova. How to say “I love you” with no words? - We asked ourselves. We have found the answer in the music that says more than words can ever say. In 1999 at the International Festival for Experimental Theatre in Cairo, we got an award for inventing a “New Theatre Language” - the language of love which we - the human beings, speak from the bottom of our souls. “Dance first. Think later. It’s a natural order”, said Samuel Beckett. “Sing first. Dance later”, we added. We started from here: The melody appeared - the body reacted. The word appeared - the thought reacted. One eternal pure love story makes the people come in the theatre to experience it again and again, but this time in an unusual way. Some of them sing the songs by heart. My “yes”. My “no”. My “maybe”. You are the quietest of my tears. We are Alma Alter Theatre Laboratory, a small team of four people: Nikolay Georgiev (director and student of Jerzy Grotowski), Petya Yosifova (choreographer and actress), Valerya Dimitrova (PR and actress) and Georgy Arsov (actor and singer). Since 1999 we have successfully realized numerous projects which we have presented in many countries in Europe and around the world. We call our theatre “The Alive Theatre” because every performance happens here, now with these people. We perform 5 times per week and each performance is a unique experience both for the actors and the spectators. We don’t sell tickets because we believe that the theatre is a place for truth. 12 unique songs from the program “Shakespeare - Contemporary and Cruel” will be included in the album. The songs will be sung by some of the most talented Bulgarian musicians. You will have the opportunity to listen to them anywhere and at any time when the love is vivid and real.
