Alan Wake 2 | PS5 | Quality Mode (30 FPS) vs Performance Mode (60 FPS) | Graphics Comparison
A Huge Thanks to Remedy for providing an Early Review copy of Alan Wake 2. Alan Wake 2 is finally here, after a long 13 year wait. And it boasts of some of the most cutting edge Visual Fidelity we have ever seen in a video game. The game looks insanely realistic with, especially when it comes to character models and rendering. When it comes to Performance on PS5 Console, Alan Wake 2 provides graphics mode. A Quality Mode targeting higher visual Fidelity but with a 30FPS cap. And a Performance Mode, targeting 60 FPS with lower resolution and world details. Neither comes with any sort of Ray Traced Reflections on consoles it seems. Being a proper Next Gen game in terms of its visuals, Alan Wake 2 is a demanding title. So to hit that 60 FPS mark on PS5, there are some significant cutbacks. The Resolution in Performance Mode is clearly sub 1080P internally upscaled to a 1080P output. The Shadows, Geometry, Textures, Draw Distance and Screen Space Reflections all are significantly lowered to hit that 60FPS target. The visuals in 60FPS are really quite muddy compared to the Quality Mode, and this is one of those rare games where, unlike Marvel's Spider-Man 2, I will suggest to go with the 30 FPS Quality if you are on consoles.
