4 FINGER SWIPE? Trackpad TIPS - Apple iPad Magic Keyboard Tutorial
So here’s what’s going to happen in this video. I’m going to show you all the useful things you can do with one-finger, two-finger, three-finger and four-finger gestures on the trackpad of a Magic Keyboard. But before we go through all of that, I’m going to cover one option that everybody needs to turn on when using a trackpad with iPadOS. In this video: 0:00 - Intro 0:39 - One setting EVERYBODY should use 1:00 - One finger gestures 1:56 - Two finger gestures 2:56 - Three finger gestures 4:04 - Four finger gestures 5:19 - Bloopers Check out the other iPad Pro keyboards that I've reviewed: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYmnlI-tycmF9-oUxwSMcSFjnK0dTkfeH At MREH, Monty and I base our videos on actual usage. One of the reasons why we’re creating this video is because we’re in the process of reviewing 3rd Party iPad Keyboard and realized that 3rd Party trackpads in iPadOS are quite hamstrung. How hamstrung? Keep watching. If you’re familiar with Apple trackpad, most of this won’t be new EXCEPT for some of the stuff you can do with one finger. So the first thing you can do with your trackpad on your Magic Keyboard is wake the iPad. Now after that, you need to goto settings, trackpad and turn on Tap to Click. This allows you to gently tap the trackpad rather than pressing which is more in line with using a touch device. The Magic Keyboards Trackpad has a bit of travel so this option allows you to use the accessory without resorting to feeling like you’re using a trackpad from the early 2000’s. When it comes to using the iPad trackpad with one finger, every trackpad allowed me to tap on the control center, the dock and the Notification Center. As a side note, an easier way to do this instead of waiting for the cursor to change its shape, you can just swipe up on the control center and notification center and down on the dock. Also, if you swiped down again after bringing up the dock, it’ll bring you back home. Which takes a bit of getting use to since you swipe up when you’re using a normal finger. The only other thing I can show is double tapping on a word will select it. Like it does when you’re using the touch screen normally. I know this section seems silly because if a trackpad can’t do certain things with one finger...what’s the point? Two Fingers gestures is where the different trackpads start to differ. With two fingers, when you’re on the home screen, you can swipe down and bring up spotlight. This is my preferred way of getting apps on my iOS devices. If you’re noodling around with text, tapping with two fingers will allow you to bring up the secondary click. You can scroll up and down with two fingers BUT if you’re using Safari, the going forwards and backwards in your webpage usage only works on Apple trackpads. That’s not a big deal BUT on my 3rd party trackpads, pinch and zoom don’t work. That’s really not a deal breaker because pinching and zooming on the tiny trackpad of the Magic Keyboard is annoying. Good thing there’s a giant pane of touchable glass in front of you! Now what can you do with Three fingers? If you’re using something like the Brydge Pro+, there is nothing you can do with three fingers. The same goes for this Logitech k400+. If you’re using an Apple trackpad or the Magic Keyboard, with three fingers you can: Swipe up to bring you to the home screen Swipe Up with a pause to bring up multitasking Swipe left to right go through your apps Now I do have to point out that you can wake the iPad using the trackpad on a 3rd Party trackpad BUT you can’t use the trackpad to bring you to the home screen so you either have to swipe up on the iPad or hope that your keyboard has a home button. So Four Fingers! When it comes to using four fingers, the only thing you can do, and it’s incredibly awkward is to accessing multi-tasking by squishing and pausing with four fingers on a tiny trackpad. I honestly have no idea who would use this given that you can use three fingers and pause to get the same result. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe to stay in the loop!
