Signs of Change | Public Workshop with Louis Nelson
In 2018, The Fralin Museum of Art at UVA, in partnership with the Charlottesville Office of Human Rights, the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center, and The Bridge Progressive Arts Initiative, mounted a city-wide campaign to educate residents about the history of slavery and African-American life in Charlottesville, as well as current realities for residents of color. For this part of the project, community workshops and University workshops were scheduled in the months of August, September and October 2018. UVA faculty presented on the histories of the African American experience. In this workshop, Professor Louis Nelson led an introduction and discussion on the history of slavery at the University of Virginia. Louis Nelson is Vice Provost for Academic Outreach and Professor, Architectural History at the University of Virginia.
