Russia - India: Formula for Economic Cooperation. Presentation of the Valdai Club Report
On February 25, the Valdai Discussion Club hosted a presentation of the report “Russia - India: Formula for Economic Cooperation”. The report is a large-scale study of the dynamically developing economic and trade relations between Russia and India. The text contains practical recommendations aimed at expanding cooperation in various areas. It examines in detail partnerships in the nuclear industry, in the field of transport and logistics, in the supply of agricultural products, fertilizers, oil, oil products and other energy sources, as well as joint initiatives in the Arctic and the Far East. The report states that India’s huge, progressive domestic market is its main resource, one which will drive increasing competition between all major players. “Each of them expects certain preferences, offering India something in return. Russian business is learning to work in the conditions of such large-scale competition and sees support from both the Indian authorities and the Russian government,” notes Lydia Kulik, the author of the report. What is the formula for success in Russian-Indian cooperation? Which projects received support in the development of “Programme-2030”, announced following the summit between President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2024? How will the policy of the new US administration affect bilateral relations? The participants of the discussion will try to answer these and other questions. Speakers: Lydia Kulik, Head of India Studies at the SKOLKOVO School of Management, Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Indian Studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (author of the report) Gulshan Sachdeva, Jean Monnet Professor at the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (New Delhi) Marсel Salikhov, Director of the Centre for Economic Expertise at the National Research University Higher School of Economics Apurv Kumar Mishra, Consultant, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India Alexander Rybas, Trade Representative of the Russian Federation in the Republic of India, Doctor of Economics, Professor at the Higher School of Economics Moderator: Ivan Timofeev, Programme Director of the Valdai Discussion Club
