Texas Natural Series - Washington on the Brazos and Brenham Bluebonnet Trail (Spring, 2021)

Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site in Washington County, Texas, is an ideal day-trip spot for Houstonians, particularly in springtime. The scenic park is known as the 'Birthplace of Texas' with a visitor center, living history farm, and museum. During the Texas spring, the Park’s prairie is filled with various wildflowers patches. Texas bluebonnet and Drummond's phlox in large patches were in full bloom during my visit there. The main bluebonnet species is Texas Bluebonnet (Lupinus texensis) contrast to Sandy Land Bluebonnet (Lupinus subcarnosus) dominated in Lake Somerville State Park just 30 miles to the west. Follow the planned Brenham Bluebonnet Trail to Independence, Texas, we toured Antique Rose Emporium nursery. Nearby, the vast farmland pastures have been magically transformed into spectacular wildflower scenery paintings, which also featured in this edition of the Texas Natural Series video. The dominating species, Texas/Indian Paintbrush (Castilleja indivisa) is truly perfectly named. Of course, the trip cannot be ended without a big scoop of ice cream at the Blue Bell Creameries in the town of Brenham, Texas. The observations exhibited in this video have also been documented on my iNaturalist website via the following link with additional photos: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?user_id=techang13507&utm_content=header-search Category Education Music Selected from Junior Recital, Setnor Auditorium, April 13, 2002 Setnor School of Music, Syracuse University Track 1: CPE Bach -Hamburger Sonata in G Major, Allegretto Track 2: CPE Bach -Hamburger Sonata in G Major, Rondo Musician Helen Chang (flute) Sar-Shalom Strong (piano)
