Protecting Your Information: A Primer on the Corey Quinn InfoSec Method

Today Corey talks about his personal security goals: that it’s not easy for others to log into his accounts, steal his identity, or install malware, and that he isn’t completely screwed if a device gets stolen. Corey gives his tips for strengthening security via four strategies: enabling protections, tightening logins, making the internet conform to his security standards, and pulling together a smart setup for his SSH keys. While he admits this isn’t an exhaustive guide, Corey says “you’re welcome!” for the insight into tightening up your personal security posture. 00:00 Intro 00:15 Ad - Chronosphere - http://snark.cloud/chronospheresuccess 00:01:06 Corey's InfoSec Goals 00:02:15 4 basic components to Corey’s security posture 00:02:33 Update your software 00:02:56 Make sure full disc encryption is turned on 00:03:24 Use a password manager 00:06:13 Enable multi-factor authentication 00:09:24 Blocking ads? 00:10:19 Install your browser’s equivalent of the HTTPS Everywhere extension 00:10:50 Keep your private keys for SSH in secure enclaves - Never miss an episode - ► Join the Last Week in AWS newsletter: https://www.lastweekinaws.com/ ► Subscribe wherever you get your podcasts - Help the show - ► Share your feedback: https://www.lastweekinaws.com/feedback/ ► Subscribe wherever you get your podcasts - What's Corey up to? - ► Follow Corey on Twitter (@quinnypig): https://twitter.com/quinnypig/ ► See our recent work at the Duckbill Group: https://www.duckbillgroup.com/clients/ ► Apply to work with Corey and the Duckbill Group to help lower your AWS bill: https://www.duckbillgroup.com/services/ This episode is sponsored by Chronosphere.
