Shower and Tub Transfers

Front Wheel Walker and Shower Chair • With your walker back up into the bench until you feel the back of your legs touch the bench. • With one arm reach for the back of the bench followed by the other hand reaching for the seat. • Slowly lower yourself to sit down on the shower chair. • Swivel so you are facing the showerhead. • Gently bring one leg up and over the step. • Scoot to the center of the bench and follow with the other leg. • Reverse the process to get out of the shower. Front Wheel Walker and Tub Transfer Bench • With your walker back up into the transfer bench until you feel the back of your legs touch the bench • With one arm reach for the back of the bench followed by the other hand reaching for the seat. • Slowly lower yourself to sit down on the transfer bench. • Push the walker away • Swivel so you are facing the showerhead. • Lean back and gently bring one leg over the edge of the tub • Be sure to not break 90 degrees at the hip • Scoot to the center of the transfer bench and follow with the other leg • Reverse the process to get out of the tub Front Wheel Walker, Shower Chair, and Grab Bars • Approach the shower with your walker facing the wall with the shower head • Turn your walker 90 degrees so it boxes you in • Transition one hand to the grab bar in the shower • Bring the closest foot over the ledge of the shower • Scoot further into the shower to make room for your other foot • Transition your other hand to the grab bar in the shower • Slower sit down keeping both hands on the grab bar • Slowly reverse the process to get out of the shower
