How to Highlight and Contour - Dodge & Burn Photoshop Tutorial
How to Highlight and Contour Tutorial using the Curves Adjustment Layers to Dodge and Burn in Photoshop. What is Dodging and Burning? Dodging and Burning is a process through which we lighten or darken areas of the image. By using the Curves Layers we'll be learning how to dodge and burn in a non-destructive way. On your Dodge layer you'll be working exclusively on the areas that you want to brighten, and on the Burn layer you'll be working only in the areas that you want to darken. Just for fun, at the end of video I've also recorded a speed-edit on the same image, using the dodge and burn tools provided in Photoshop to showcase the difference in between the 2 processes, and why you should use the Curves method instead. GETTING STARTED - How to set up your Dodge and Burn Layers 1. With your image open, go to the Adjustment Layers and select Curves, twice. 2. Label the top layer: Dodge. 3. Label the second layer: Burn. 4. On your Dodge Layer select the pointing hand cursor, go to your image, choose an area of the face where the skin is almost the lightest and click and drag upwards, until the entire image brightens. Then hit CTRL+I (CMD+I) to revert the image. 5. On your Burn Layer select the pointing hand cursor, go to your image, choose an area of the face where the skin is the darkest and click and drag downwards, until the entire image darkens. Then hit CTRL+I (CMD+I) to revert the image. And that's it! Now you can start working. You'll be using the Brush Tool to paint with white. Use a soft brush, with 0 hardness and keep your Opacity and Flow to relatively small values (don't go over 35-40). #Photoshop #skinretouching #suzanaplesca #dodgeandburn ________________________________________________________________________________________________ LET'S BE FRIENDS!
