EACC TRANSFORM Symposium on Industry 4.0 in Action & Modula USA Factory Tour, by Altix & EACC Cincy
Just… wow… Smart Factories are real & working in many markets from Food & Beverage to Aerospace to Metalworking to Automotive to Logistics. Yesterday I was happy to attend the "𝗘𝗔𝗖𝗖 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗦𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝟰.𝟬 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻" organized by Altix Consulting & hosted by Modula USA. There were many great presentations from Yannick Schilly, Antonio Pagano & Dominic Franchini of the European American Chamber of Commerce - Cincinnati. BUT the keynote from Dr. Jay Lee of University of Cincinnati & Foxconn on "Industrial AI & Smart Resilient Manufacturing" was mind-blowingly packed full of ideas. Here are 2: ✅ “Your data may be useful but it’s not useable” most companies have lots of data but most of the data isn’t usable for one reason or the other. ✅Three applications of machine & manufacturing industrial AI: 🧠 Self Aware, 📊 Self Compare, & 💡 Self Predict I also really enjoyed the panel discussion with Dr. Jay Lee, Philippe Garnier of Safran Landing Systems, Francisco (Paco) Tello of Perfetti Van Melle, Kevin Eustace of Siemens Digital Industries Software & Manuel de la Torre of Mubea. These gentlemen shared real & powerful insights & successes from their factories. I enjoyed this quote from Kevin: “𝙄𝙣𝙫𝙤𝙡𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙠𝙚𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙖𝙣 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙮 4.0 𝙄𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚, 𝙞𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙙𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙤 𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙯𝙚 & 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙪𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙛𝙪𝙡.” After the presentations, I hosted an open discussion with Giovanni Piccolo of Salvagnini where we discussed with participants “𝙄𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙛𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙚” This was a great discussion with many people around the three Ws. Why to Automate? What to Automate? When to Automate? Liked this from Laura Wiley “𝘼𝙪𝙩𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙚𝙙 & 𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙛𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙗𝙡𝙚𝙢.” I jumped on the last tour of the day to see the impressively new Modula USA facility opened in 2019. Originally the absolutely iconic Dayton Daily News print-house, they’ve done a complete remodel & modernization of the facility. Capable of running “lights-out for days” the Modula team works to have high flexibility in their automation to “concentrate the operator on added value & automate the repetitive or standard tasks.” The clean & efficient facility was an impressive example of modern manufacturing & logistics. What a powerful day of education and networking! Thanks to the Valentina Cecchi & the team at Modula for hosting the event & a special thanks to Anne Cappel, Todd P. Schwartz, Claudia SCHROEDER, Dayna O'Brien & all those I missed! Til next time, ask yourself: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗶 𝗔𝗨𝗧𝗢𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁? WILL HEALY III #EACCTransform #manufacturing #Industry40 #SmartFactory #SmartManufacturing #artificialintelligence #industrialAI #automation #factoryautomation #industrialautomation #WillAutomate
