Maniac Chase -- Asocial
Rescued from an old nickleodeon, this little Edison film is remarkable for a number of reasons. Even though it's a 1904 filming, it has a story and uses some trick photography even while filming outside. The scenery is beautiful, but I'm not sure where it was done. I did end up editing the movie (all of seven minutes long and it was a two parter!) for flow, and to remove the first scene which was actually pretty shocking -- but hey, back in the day, it was considered alright to beat the snot out of a truculent mental patient. So meet Napoleon (or the guy who thinks he is Napoleon), and his three attendants. The song, interestingly, was cobbled together from a handful of pieces Tedd had, and he wasn't all that fond of it. The rest of us got a hoot out of it for the loony factor. Some back up singers *coughlikemyselfcough* liked to go over the top with it. And it actually stemmed from Tedd getting an Email with the dread "Send this email to five friends..." So send this You Tube to five friends, and you'll ... ...You'll be sending it to five friends! The film can be found via the American Memory Collection, you'll need to go back to the Library of Congress splash page and then search. It's kind of buried in the Edison collection.
