"Accordion concerto-3rd mvmt" - N. Tchaikin. Yuri Kazakov's performance for the ages
I've managed to improve the audio quality significantly. This is Kazakov's landmark recording of the most famous composition for accordion & orchestra. This final movement is a lively "theme & variations" on the Russian folk tune "In the smitty." Initially, I thought there were two contrasting themes - one major & the other in minor, but then I realized that the 2nd theme is just a variation of the 1st theme inverted "minorized." When the young Kazakov was included in the great Armenian composer Aram Khatchaturian's orchestral tour program he wrote, "I thought that the addition of Yuri Kazakov in our entourage was merely as a token novelty. And suddenly - resounding success! The bayan, in the hands of Kazakov spoke with unprecedented beauty. It was singing & roaring, filling the concert hall packed with thousands as if it were a full-sized organ.
