Theodor Kirchner: 9 Albumblätter, Op.7: 2 - Munter, nicht zu schnell

Phillip Sear plays an 'albumleaf' (marked 'Munter, nicht zu schnell' = cheerful, not too fast) from a set of nine, published in 1856, by the German composer Theodor Kirchner (1823-1903). ------------------------------------------------------------------ Theodor Kirchner (1823-1903) is, compositionally, a fascinating link between Schumann and Brahms - a friend of both, and admired by Mendelssohn, Grieg, Wagner, Liszt and many others. One would never guess from his very carefully constructed music that he was addicted to gambling, and that Brahms had to raise money to pay off his debts in 1884. I cannot attempt to summarize his varied life story, so would refer you to http://bit.ly/2fxd63C . Note that he wrote over 1000 piano pieces, very few of which seem to be in the repertoire, despite his reputation in his lifetime. He was also a considerable arranger of works of others for piano and other combinations.
