Star Citizen - 3.10.2 - AMD Threadripper 3990X + 2080ti, 4K Hurston with Aegis Sabre Raven
Hello everyone, I have been playing SC on a 3950X with a 2080ti but figured I would throw SC on my server and see how it does. Quick note, my 3950X outperforms this CPU by a few frames due to higher frequency core clock at 4.3ghz and less spread. However I will be throwing a 3090 in this rig when they drop :) When I get my 3090 I will do a follow up video in the same way, in the same area and the same locations. That way we have some resemblance for a comparison, so look for the follow up video with the new 3090! If you are curious, I did a FPS comparison video between the 3990X and the 3950X here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2DNDumGdjc The only reason I made this video, was because I wanted to show and demonstrate how atrociously optimized this game is. We all know it, we have heard the devs tell us they are working on the rewrite. I simply thought it would make for a good demonstration is all. I still LOVE this game :) This is just a raw and uncut, fire up Star Citizen and hop into the PU from bed. I figured this was one of the best areas to demonstrate the FPS dips. Keep in mind I could have done this video x10 over and gotten different frame-rate variations each time. The server health has a large factor and influence on your overall FPS. So don't be surprised when you hop into the PU and notice at times your FPS is either higher or lower than normal. Star Citizen was utilizing anywhere between 6~12% CPU usage, while recording OBS at Loseless was using another 8% by itself. CPU temp "which was not available in MSI Afterburner Overlay" was around 52~55'C. 1200mm of radiator helps keep this CPU at bay when it peaks boost speeds. Some very obvious things to point out: 1.) Star Citizen is an unfinished, non-optimized game still running on DX11 with lots of polish and tweaking on performance needed. We all know this, but figured I would point it out again. 2.) AMD's 3990X is NOT a gaming CPU. Many other CPU's outperform this CPU with higher overall FPS due to less cores/threads with also much higher frequencies placing those CPU's in favor of less optimized games.
