Elton John - Crocodile Rock (Live in Virginia 1972)
In a record shop in Stockholm recently I found an old Elton John bootleg vinyl. The record cover simply says "elton john .. live .." without any information. I gave a listen in the shop and discovered it was a pretty decent recording of a concert I did not recognize, so I bought it. After further investigation I deduced that it's a recording of a very unique show in 1972 at Hampton Roads, Virginia (1972, Nov. 18). It is very unique because it's during the 1972 tour, but Davey Johnstone is not in the band! In the introductions we can hear Elton mention that Davey is missing because he's in a New York hospital. I've noticed that a number of people call this live recording "Norfolk," but Elton clearly says "Hampton Roads" during his introduction of Legs Larry Smith. Crocodile Rock Live at Hampton Roads, Virgina 1972 Nov. 18 Elton John: Piano & Vocals Nigel Olsson: Drums & Vocals Dee Murray: Bass & Vocals Legs Larry Smith: Tap Dancing & Vocals Clive Franks: Organ
