Trixial Cable

Trixial Cable Coaxial cable is a popular type of cable used in radio electronics, telecommunications, meters, and many other applications. However, not all of us know that there is a more complex version with capabilities exceeding those of the coaxial cable. We are talking about the triaxial cable or simply triax. Let's take a look at the coaxial structure. This is a cable consisting of a copper conductor in the centre covered by insulation. Over the insulation there is the external conductor, i.e. the copper winding. The whole structure is covered by an external insulation. What is the peculiarity of a triaxial cable? It has 2 external conductors instead of one. This means there are two inner insulation layers. Thus, it is a sort of a two-layer coaxial cable with double screening. Such a structure gives a number of advantages relative to the regular coaxial cable. These include the increased resistance to noise and a wider bandwidth. Due to these properties it is often used, for instance, at TV stations to make electric connections of cameras, amplifiers, and transmitting systems, as well as systems for controlling cameras and transmitting signals. The structure of the cable, its great bandwidth, and the use of frequency channel separation make it suitable for feeding and controlling cameras as well as transmitting audio and video signals. Thus, it's all of these plus high noise resistance. Of course it is worth mentioning that due to the amount of materials increased almost by 2 these conductors are expensive and hard to manufacture. Their cost is considerably higher than that of a regular coaxial cable. If a triax is connected through a BNC socket, it differs in some way from the regular cables. In particular, there are 3 lock slots instead of 2 to exclude the possibility of connecting it to regular non-triaxial sockets. The length of the cable that can be used is limited and depends on its diameter as well on the equipment it is used with. As a rule the diameter is 8 to 14 mm. This allows TV workers make high quality triax wiring of five hundred and more meters long. The length may be up to over 2 kilometres provided the cord has a large diameter. In the end I'd like to mention that due to the working conditions and the high cost of the triax its outer coating is usually made of rigid polyurethane to protect it from mechanical impacts.
