Eastern Coyote - Coywolf Barking and Howling - Bellingham Massachusetts Backyard
The past 1-2 months Eastern Coyotes - Coywolves have been showing up in our backyard at night. They have been catching so many Rabbits. They are territorial and will mark an area with urine. Coyotes - Coywolves are out looking for Mates this time of year. The mating season begins in January and last to March. We have been hearing the Coyotes - Coywolves barking, yapping and howling loudly. We have a 4 foot wire fence that they easily jump over. They exit over a stone wall back to the Woodlands - Fairy Forest. A Coywolf is a canid hybrid descended from coyotes, eastern wolves, gray wolves, and dogs. All of these species are members of the genus Canis with 78 chromosomes and therefore can interbreed. One genetic study indicates that these two species genetically diverged relatively recently.
